Can PPF be repaired?
Paint Protection Film (PPF) is a popular choice for car owners looking to protect their vehicle’s paint from chips, scratches, and other damage. However, accidents happen, and even the most durable PPF may sustain damage over time, which begs the question, can Paint Protection Film be repaired?
Well, the short answer is YES!
Paint Protection Film can repaired or replaced, depending on the severity of the damage. One of the significant advantages of high-quality PPF is its self-healing properties. We say high-quality because the highest-trained staff are wasted on poor quality Paint Protection Film. A good-quality Paint Protection Film, coupled with a good-quality installer, will always protect for longer and more effectively than poor on both counts.
Thanks to the aforementioned self-healing properties, minor scratches and swirl marks can disappear over time with the application of heat. The heat reactivates the clear coat on the film, allowing it to smooth out and repair the damage. However, it is important to note that self-healing properties are limited to minor surface scratches, and deeper or more extensive damage may require additional repair methods such as patching and spot repair or a full-panel replacement.
For localised damage to PPF, such as small punctures or tears, patching or spot repair can be an option.
